MAYA DAYA
Medical Clinic

HISTORY

The Maya Daya Medical Clinic was established by Ven. Lama Zopa Rinpoche in 1992 with the aim to provide proper health-care services to the population living around Kopan Monastery and in neighbouring villages. Prior to its inception there was no hospital nor clinic in the area, and people had to go on long journeys to receive medical treatment. Ven. Lama Zopa Rinpoche entrusted the task of building Maya Daya Medical Clinic to Kopan Monastery's Abbot, Ven. Khenrinpoche Lama Lhundrub and his team: manager Ven. Tenpa Choeden and Ven. Gelek Gyatso. It was built in the village at the bottom of Kopan hill, in the vicinity of the Boudhanath Stupa as a single, L-shaped house composed of 3 rooms. With the help and support of Western Dharma-friends the Pathology Lab was created at the Clinic.

PRESENT SITUATION

Maya Daya Clinic is open 3 days a week, 2 hours each day. There are a Nepali doctor and two dedicated Kopan monks as the Clinic staff. Since it opened its doors to the public, Maya Daya Clinic has received thousands of local patients, monks and nuns among them. Regretfully, due to insufficient funding the Pathology Lab at the Clinic had to be closed. Although the Clinic offers 40% discount on all medications, many villagers can not afford even that.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

The Maya Daya Medical Clinic urgently needs your help!
We need:

1. more doctors,
2. qualified medical staff,
3. our Pathology Lab back in service,
4. a larger clinic-space,
5. an interest-bearing Medical Fund.

To be able to continue to offer proper health-care services to the underprivileged, to the poor, and to the local Sangha, we need new medical equipment, and a large supply of free-of-charge medications. Maya Daya Clinic welcomes qualified medical volunteers, financial supporters, and professional fund-raisers from around the world!
